Welcome to HLLC!

The Honors Living-Learning Community (HLLC) is a transformative college access and success program that fosters the academic, social, and personal development of talented students from all walks of life with a desire to make a difference in their communities and beyond. With an innovative curriculum centered on themes of “Local Citizenship in a Global World,” HLLC students will live and learn at Rutgers University–Newark (RU–N) with students from all over the world.

Our vision is to create a state-of-the-art facility with dining, recreational, and academic spaces that will host upwards of 500 talented undergraduate students. The HLLC cohorts will include students who enroll in postsecondary education immediately following high school graduation, and students in other stages of their lives.

Examples of HLLC students include the following:

  • High school graduates
  • First-generation college students
  • Transfer students
  • Veterans
  • Older students
  • General Education Development (GED) recipients
  • Student parents
  • Financially independent students
