CAPSTONE
The Honors Living-Learning Community prides itself on developing socially conscious, interdisciplinary, problem-based learners, through its rigorous and diverse curriculum. The capstone experience builds upon the foundations of the HLLC core courses to engage scholars more deeply in how issues of social inequity can be addressed through the lens of their specific academic disciplines and community-engaged scholarship. Each scholar is expected to complete a capstone project through an experiential experience, such as: research projects; interning with local not-for-profits or government agencies; or engaging in an international academic or service-learning projects, among others.
There are various ways to fulfill the Capstone requirement:
• Internship/Co-Op
• Study Abroad (Semester/Year Abroad)
• International Immersion Experience (Short-Term International Experience Abroad)
• National (US) Immersion Experience (Short-Term Experience in Another State)
• Graduate Study (Dual Degree Program)
• Research Assistantship
The Capstone Experience is an independent research, creative, or applied project in which the scholar is expected to:
1. Identify a social inequity issue or theme that the capstone explores,
2. Exhibit how the capstone experience addresses the issue or theme, and
3. Highlight how the experience has impacted the scholar and the greater community
As seniors, we ask that you please take a few minutes to complete the HLLC Capstone Declaration Form. Many of you have either already completed one of the experiences necessary to complete your capstone or are currently in the planning stages of doing so. If you need assistance identifying a Capstone Experience please complete the Capstone Support Form.
To complete the declaration form please reflect on the HLLC’s theme of Local Citizen in a Global Word and identify a social issue or theme that you are passionate about and how through your capstone experience you gained additional insight(s) into the issue, initiated action, and/or plan to initiate an action.
Once you complete the declaring form, we will contact you to set up a meeting to discuss your capstone.
